Clair FigBuild

Design Sprint, Mobile Interface, Future Tech

Clair was created for FigBuild 2026, Figma’s international student design competition. Over a high-stakes three-day sprint, our team approached the project from initial ideation to a complete product, managing user research, wireframing, user flows, UI design, and brand identity. I focused intensely on the application’s UX and interaction design, ensuring the end-to-end experience was seamless and intuitive. The project culminated in a comprehensive case study and pitch deck detailing our design rationale, process, and final deliverables for executive review.

Design a tool that tracks, measures, visualizes or quantifies an aspect of human sensory experience. Within the tool, provide the ability to detect, enhance, or manipulate those same sensory inputs.

The "quantified self" movement has transformed how we understand our bodies and behaviors. From step counters to sleep trackers to mood apps, we're only scratching the surface. Think about designers working on the first generation of fitness trackers in the early 2000s: they had to imagine interfaces for heart rate monitoring, GPS tracking, and continuous health sensing long before the sensors, batteries, or processing power existed to make it real. They designed for a future where tiny, powerful sensors would be embedded in everyday objects—a future that seemed fantastical at the time but is now our reality. Just as those early designers had to speculate about technological possibilities, your task is to imagine the next frontier of self-knowledge and design for capabilities that don't yet exist.

Identify something intangible, invisible, or previously unmeasurable about the human sensory experience and design a speculative tool to track and influence it. This tool should be designed to support a wellness goal or behavioral change for an individual or a group.

A conceptual ecosystem designed to bridge the gap between digital discovery and physical connection. By leveraging clairsentience (intuitive sensing), with the goal of facilitating the exploration of third spaces, empowering users to find personalized communities through a heightened sense of intuition and environmental resonance.

01

Customized Destinations

A setting that allows the user to find 3rd spaces that best fit their needs for their current situation.

02

Location Pings

Allows the user to be notified when a location that fits their interest or goals in a third space is near by. This is used so that the user isn’t reliant on strict directions in order to find a new space.

03

Navigation

A navigational compass that allows the user to discover a new third space without fully disclosing that locations identity until discovery.

04

Experience Overview

A final survey the user is encouraged to complete in order to give the app feedback about how their last experience was and what to cater to next time.

To clearly convey Clair’s purpose and meet our submission criteria, we built a illustrated user story centered on a persona named Tyler. Rather than a linear path, we nested three separate user flows within this single narrative to showcase the end-to-end product experience. Tyler's journey highlights three critical phases: initial discovery, first-time utilization, and a post-experience feedback loop designed to curate future interactions. This holistic user story perfectly illustrates how Clair bridges the digital gap to help users find third spaces and form real-world connections.

The final product of this intense three-day sprint was a Figma prototype for an app that allows users to discover new third spaces tailored to their interests, motivations, and situational needs. The platform allows users to curate their own experiences while organically discovering new locations based on app feedback. This directly addresses our core concept for Clair, derived from clairsentience, implying a heightened sense of intuition, applied specifically for finding third spaces. Additionally, it doubles as a social platform, enabling users to connect and engage with people they meet throughout their Clair experience.

While our team didn’t take home a win at the FigBuild design-a-thon, the experience was incredibly valuable. Working under a strict three-day time crunch taught me how to maintain team organization, stay aligned on a shared vision, and collaborate effectively under pressure. Ultimately, I am incredibly proud of what we designed. While there is always room to iterate, our final prototype successfully addressed our initial goals, offering a compelling solution to a real-world contemporary problem: helping people reconnect with third spaces and rebuild a sense of community.
